Pegasus School joined up to Derbyshire’s Anti-Bullying Commitment (ABC) Quality Assurance Scheme and was awarded the
Certificate of Commitment in December. Since then the anti-bullying message has been spread across the school seeing some really beneficial outcomes for the students, the staff and the school as a whole, having our work recognised as ‘good’ practice in our recent OFSTED report.
Our work so far has seen a development of ‘house meetings’ to look at issues around bullying and developing friendships. The photo above shows students in one of the meetings entitled ‘Rules of Friendships’. They were asked what they would like their friends to be, suggesting ‘kind, sharing, friendly, and nice.’ They were then asked what they would they do if someone called them nasty names, and they suggested “ignore” “walk away” “go and find help” “say NO” “tell key care” “tell staff”, demonstrating a good understanding of the lessons during the previous term about what bullying is and what to do if they are bullied. They all keep records of their work in their own books which they are very proud of!
Staff development is underway, using both internal and external training. The staff, along with students, parents/carers and
social workers have been consulted in
developing our anti-bullying practice, seeing a planned revival of our monitoring systems and policy to further ensure the safeguarding of all our students.
We aim to achieve the next award by May, so we’ll keep you posted!
If you would like to discuss or observe any aspects of our work in relation to our anti-bullying practice please contact the
