Staff from across the education and care departments of the SENAD Groups Derbyshire based schools and homes have successfully achieved the first two modules of the Certificate of Professional Development. The Programme has been devised by representatives from across the Group in collaboration with experts in Social Care and Education at the University of Derby and is the first programme of its kind within the sector
The programme has been created to enable staff the opportunity to gain nationally recognised professional qualifications which they can apply in their day to day practice to the benefit of the young people and adults in their care. The programme also enables staff to work towards degree level qualifications and experience university life.
The first module gave students a work based introduction to study in higher education through discussing the context of their working environments and relate their knowledge and skills in these areas to the requirements of study and writing at Higher Education level.
Whilst the second module developed their understanding of how personal and societal attitudes and values impact on individuals groups and social work and social care practice.
Students were presented with their certificates by Liz Barnes Pro-vice Chancellor of the University and Brian Jones Chief Executive Officer of the SENAD Group at a presentation event which took place on Wednesday 15th at Derby University’s Enterprise Centre. Fran Fuller, the Programme Leader in Applied Social and Community Studies also congratulated them on their success.
Fran commented "the opportunity for employees to access HE in this way is excellent and a very progressive approach which has been adopted by SENAD. I believe it is a unique position that employees find themselves in and one which they should embrace and reap the benefits of"
These achievers move on to the second stage of the programme which starts in November 2010 whilst a second group of staff embark on the first stage of the programme which runs from January 2011. |
