Current Job Title: Support Worker
Start Date: 01.10.2006
Orchard School
I applied for the role of Support Worker at Orchard School after it was recommended to me by people in the local area. At the time I was looking for a career that would be rewarding and offer me self - development and progression.
In my role I look after and care for the students whilst they are in their residential area. No two days are the same, but I generally help students with their personal care and hygiene, eating and dressing. I help them keep in touch with their family and support them on activities such as swimming and shopping. After just one year at the school I am now a Co-Key Worker for one resident. This means I can work more closely with that student, ensuring they have everything they need to make their time at the school as fulfilling as possible.
As well as the immense satisfaction of knowing I am having a positive impact on student’s lives, the job also offers flexible working hours and shifts, good rates of pay and it is a nice, friendly working environment.
As promised in my interview I have received, and continue to receive a lot of training. I am currently working towards NVQ 3 in Care and have also received training in food hygiene, first aid, child protection and PRICE.
