Jo Breeze
Current Job Title: Team Leader
Start Date: August 2004
Orchard School
I graduated with a law degree from the University of Warwick and became a Care Support Worker at a residential school for the blind. I was made redundant from there, but knew I wanted to continue to work in the care sector. I applied for a job as a Support Worker at the Orchard School and was successful. One of the reasons I accepted the role was that the staff seemed so friendly; the whole place had a really good atmosphere.
Later I was promoted to Team Leader. My role is busy and varied. It involves running shifts, line managing a group of support workers and organising activities for students, attending reviews, writing behaviour management guidelines for the students and COSHH risk assessments.
After 3 years of being at the school I am pleased to be working in such a professional, strong and focussed team. The Principal has an open door policy and listens to all staff and there are lots of opportunities for professional development. The training I have received has included: NVQ4,Child Protection, PRICE, Food Hygiene, First Aid, Methods of working with students in school/house, Comprehensive induction and Level 2 risk management.
