Youth Project Leader Shortlisted for National Special Education Award

Bill Whittle of Bladon House School in Newton Solney has been shortlisted in the Special Education category in the finals of the Independent Specialist Care Awards. The awards of run by Laing and Buisson and the awards ceremony, which is being hosted by Ruby Wax, will take place on the 15th March next year in London.
Bill has worked with the School since 2007. He was nominated for the award by the schools Head Teacher, Kate Britt who praised his commitment to the children and young people. In July 2008 Bill took a group of four students to Snowdonia to take part in their Gold Duke of Edinburgh award expedition. Not only was this a first for the School but also a first for the Duke of Edinburgh Award who had never had a special needs group attempt, let alone complete their 4 day Gold expedition before.

As well as Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, Bill has been instrumental in increasing the number of community based opportunities for young people. He has significantly improved the skills and self esteem of young people by giving them the chance to experience being part of a team and to feel part of and integrate into communities.
