As a part of Aran Hall Schools’ ongoing commitment to their 24-hour curriculum they have introduced the ‘ASDAN Towards Independence Scheme’ to care staff as a basis for evening activities and as an extension of student’s school work.
As there are three teams of care staff supporting their young people, compiling module workbooks and producing evidence can be a tricky task. Undaunted by this, they think that they have come up with a great solution!
As a trial, sixteen different modules, linked with leisure activities, have been broken down into worksheets, printed and set into ring binders. Evidence recording sheets are provided for care staff to use, prompting them to record all the essential information needed for the moderation process. A training package has been put together for care staff. Although this approach is still new an ASDAN Official who acted as an external moderator for the school recently wrote:
‘The evidence for the report was very well presented, referenced well and the work was to a very high standard. It was good to see the great variety of evidence, which included a Powerpoint presentation, put together by the candidate.’
