Hardy Staff from Alderwasley Hall School and Callow Park College donned their wetsuits and fancy dress school uniforms to take part in the Matlock Boxing Day raft race organised by the Derbyshire Association of Sub Aqua Club.
The race, which is organised annually, attracted more than 10,000 spectators and the team where amongst 47 other brave teams to hit the cold water. They did fantastically well winning a special trophy for the presentation of the raft and costumes. Over £6,000 was raised in aid of the RNLI, St John Ambulance, the Hyperbaric Unit and Derbyshire Air Ambulance.
The raft was acquired at the being of December and with the help of staff and volunteers transformed it from its original dismal state to the fantastic school bus. The team are hoping to take part in next year’s event, as well as the Carsington Reservoir raft race which takes place in the spring.
The staff members on the raft were Dave Clayton and Wayne Coley from Callow Park College,John Hardy from Alderwasley Hall School, Josh Nettleton, Clare Atkinsonfrom Cavendish House and Jullian Hart, Husband of the Schools Training Co-Ordinator, Sue Hart.
