Since September 2009 ‘School Cattering Support’ have been working with the Group’s Derbyshire based Schools to raise the quality of food services.
The schools have been on a food journey, with a number of successful new products and themes being introduced. These have included ‘Pasta King Mondays’, Easi-Yo
homemade yoghurts, Chicken Joes wraps and a number of homemade initiatives such as a new food wrapping system which enables the catering teams to
provide fresh fruit bags, cheese and
biscuits, grape bags, dried fruit snack bags and many more.
In addition Stefan McCran, the Manager of School Catering Support for SENAD, has organised a number of food theme days across the schools. Karen Dolman,
Catering and Domestic Manager, and her team at Bladon House School hosted a Chinese banquet and have a Brunch and BBQ day planned before the school breaks up for their summer holiday.
As well as enjoying these special events a number of pupils have helped with the rearing of pigs on the schools farm, the whole school are now enjoying the finest quality locally sourced (Bladon House) pork products regularly on the menu!
In the forthcoming menus schools will continue to introduce exciting products and have established strong links with suppliers able to bring us the newest products available. Pupils and staff can look forward to the introduction of the sub central food concept, this is a brand new food concept to the education market, that offers a filled soft deli roll with a
selection of meat and vegetarian friendly fillings all served with fresh salad and accompanying sauces. It also has the added benefit of being mineral enriched, helping us reach the zinc and iron levels required within the nutritional guidelines and assisting with the schools retaining the healthy schools status we are all so proud of!
