Philippa, a student at Callow Park College, took part in the regional RDA (Riding for the Disabled
Association) dressage competition on May 21st 2008, qualifying for the National Championship’s which takes place in July.
Philippa started horse riding when she was five years old. She began to concentrate on dressage five years ago. She currently rides at Leominster, where there is a good riding school and instructor. Philippa is currently studying for an NVQ in Horse Care at Broomfield College near Derby.
Philippa’s Mum praised the fantastic support given to her daughter by staff at Callow Park College (Part of Alderwasley Hall School).
‘When Philippa arrives home after her day at Broomfield College she’s full of life. Whilst it is hard for her, especially due to her mobility difficulties, horse riding has been an excellent form of physiotherapy and has helped Philippa with her balance and confidence immensely’.
The Principal of Alderwasley Hall School and Callow Park College, Veronica Jenkins said how incredibly proud all the staff are of Philippa.
‘Philippa’s connection to horses has always been evident and we have gladly given her support to maintain and develop this interest. Through her time at Alderwasley we have watched her grow into a confident young lady who has taken her natural riding skills to new heights’.
We wish Philippa lots of good luck for the championships and look forward to hearing how she got on.
